THE PASTORAL CARE AND COUNSELING SERVICES (PCCS)

Who are we?

PCCS is a registered welfare organization located in Mutare , Zimbabwe.  Serving the Manicaland Communities and Churches in Zimbabwe since 2000, the Pastoral Care and Counseling Service  partners with local communities, religious institutions and other organizations, to provide capacity building for local clergy, other religious leaders and local traditional leaders in professional counseling and mental health care of individuals, groups and families in crisis.

Focus

As a care and counseling service provider , we work with  communities, denominations and religious institutions to bring transformation to our society.

Since its establishment in 2000, PCCS has implemented annual projects with:

• children at risk
• women in need ( widows, single parents)
• the elderly
• survivors of violence and abuse
• prison inmates and ex-prisoners
• Safe Communities Project since 2010

Achievements in 2011

-held psycho-education with 280 women in need.

-Group counseling with 550 prison inmates

-healing and reconcilition education with 1000 community members in Makoni District, Zimbabwe

- so far 325  parish clergy and 29 chaplains have been trained and equipped in Pastoral Care and Counseling Skills in areas such as

• bereavement counseling
• premarital education and premarital counseling
• child and adolescent counseling 
• clergy self-care
• hospital and school chaplaincy
• prison chaplaincy
• healing, forgiveness and reconciliation

What We Do

Our purpose is to provide caring, compassionate and confidential environment where people can receive pastoral care and counseling .

We design training programs that enable pastors and other community caregivers to draw on their talents , gifts and knowledge inorder to provide effective help to hurting individuals and communities

Our special area is capacity developing of clergy and any interested individuals in pastoral care and counseling matters. At PCCS we:

Offer free individual, group and family counseling services

• offer consultation and researsch services on pastoral care and counseling issues
• equip pastors and congregation with skills in care ministry
• assist congregations develop effective pastoral care ministries.
• supervise of students interning in professional counseling
• work together with other organizations and the government to promote mental health and human well being.

Reading Resource Room – upcoming

There is an opportunity for care givers, pastors and religious workers, mental health workers to enhance knowledge in pastoral care and counseling by reading. The Reading Resource Room is available in 2012. Remember, learning does not end, a chance to grow in knowledge and competence. A call for healing and reconciliation

 Healing and Reconciliation – everyone’s responsibility

65 local leaders and facilitators  came together to share and learn about the journey towards healing and reconciliation in Zimbabwe.  One participant shared, “This workshop has shed light for me that without healing and reconciliation there is no development and sustainable transformation.”  The training hosted by the Pastoral Care and Counseling Services (PCCS)  is one of the many trainings that communities are undertaking. The trainings are an opportunity for communities to

• Learn about the effects of vioelence and how to stop violence in communities
• gain skills on trauma care and support
• foster healing , reconciliation and boost community development.

Balls for Peace and Healing

Engaging communities to rebuild relationships  and prevent violence through sporting.The distress caused by violence calls for attention, the participation of all stakeholders so that society resumes the healthy course of living. So, please come and be part of the solution.

Community Counselors received training in Basic Counseling Techniques

Seven PCCS Community Counselors are available to assist individuals, families, and groups with diverse needs through challenges in their life journeys. The equipped PCCS counselors serve people that are referred from a variety of settings such as:

• Educational Institutions

• Other welfare organizations

• Families
