Participants attending a capacity development workshop for religious leaders
A 3 day workshop for clergy and church leaders was held to equip church leaders with skills to help hundreds of people in their communities as they undergo the process of healing and reconciliation
85 Participants consisting of religious Leaders
Representatives from 35 denominations/ religious groups
Representatives from Zimbabwe Council of Churches Manicaland, Evangelical Fellowship of Zimbabwe Manicaland , Catholic Commission of Justice and Peace Manicaland , Mutare Ministers' Fraternal and NANGO , Traditional leaders,
Government department invited : Zimbabwe Republic Police Manicaland, Department of Social Services Manicaland and the Governor's office
Survivors of political violence attended the workshop.
The participants came from 6 Manicaland Province districts namely Mutare, Chipinge , Chimanimani, Nyanga, Makoni and Mutasa.
The purpose of the workshop was to promote and strengthen the healing and reconciliation activities by equipping religious leaders and community leaders with skills to facilitate the healing process in local communities in Zimbabwe.
The following objectives were achieved at the workshop
- Sharing of various ways the church is helping people in communities heal and reconcile.
- Discussing ways to strengthen the helpful strategies and approaches already implemented in communities inorder to strengthen the process of healing and reconciliation.
Discussing of options and mechanisms available for healing and reconciliation in the context of local communities, benchmarked with best practices obtained in other countries.
Recognizing the devastating effects of traumatic experiences people faced and promoting healing.
